ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct the financial forecast and annual operating plan processes
~ Develop, direct, and drive planning templates, calendars, and timelines
~ Synthesize the input from all clients with the business strategy with a view of delivering Carmax’s financial plans
~ Coordinate and present consolidated monthly, quarterly and YTD variance to plan, forecast and LY financial statement analysis – identify opportunities and risks along with action plans to ensure attainment of financial goals
- Direct and coordinate the development of management reports and presentations
- Lead Carmax’s migration towards an enhanced financial planning toolset
~ Build integrated financial statements modeling toolset
~ Deliver iterative scenario planning and sensitivity analysis capabilities
- Deliver financial management leadership supporting the attainment of Carmax’s long-term financial goals
~ Support defining Carmax’s long-term value creation methodology
~ Define a broad array of financial performance metrics aimed at delivering shareholder value creation
~ Partner with Corporate Strategy in delivering the Long Range Plans
~ Deliver iterative scenario planning and rolling multi year outlooks
- Oversee financial planning of Corporate Overhead
~ Deliver forecasts and annual operating plans
~ Perform benchmarking work to support the optimal level of investment in Corporate Overhead
- Serve as a key business partner to Investor Relations, Treasury and Control
- Direct, lead and develop a team of associates through timely performance feedback delivered during day-to-day observations, file reviews and an annual performance review. The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis will be a dynamic business partner and leader across the Carmax organization. (S)he will be responsible for directing the overall financial planning processes, including leading the forecast, annual plan, and the financial components of the long-range plan. This director will be proactive and provide actionable perspective on the opportunities and risks facing Carmax and not just a “rear view vision.”

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Ten or more years of relevant finance experience, preferably including both corporate and operational finance experience
- BA / BS in Finance or related degree
- MBA / CPA a plus
- Direct experience in enhancing or rolling out an enterprise financial planning tool
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, and financial modeling skills
- Excellent communication, partnering, presentation and influencing skills
- Experience in multi-unit retail environment preferred
- Ability to manage multi-project workload within tight deadlines through strong organizational and planning skills
- Excellent computer skills: Excel, PowerPoint, Access

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to communicate in a clear and open manner through verbal, written, and non-verbal methods, to all levels of the organization
- Ability to summarize or present complex and/or technical information into easy-to-understand pieces

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to comprehend and apply basic mathematics
