Job Description: Collaboration is a $37B marketplace – and the Collaboration Software Group (CSG) is leading the charge in developing SaaS-based strategies and services. The Cisco CSG offers companies many choices for conferencing, enterprise IM, mail and spaces that deliver on the collaboration promise of anytime, anywhere, any device connectivity through on-premise, cloud-based or hybrid options to fit every business need. In the Cloud Services arm of the Collaboration business we are intently focused on building the next generation platform for our in market and future communications, social, and collaboration product offerings.
The Cloud Architect will lead functional architects, developers, and operations engineers in the design and implementation of next generation platform services. Additionally, the candidate will also establish and maintain technology standards, evaluate and direct new technology designs to enable the Collaboration Software Group and other Business Units within the Collaboration and Communications Division to achieve their individual goals in the most economical, scalable, and supportable way for the organization. This individual is required to demonstrate sound technical architectural leadership, playing a vital role in designing, enhancing, implementing and scaling application platforms. The Architect will think strategically when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. They will excel in the areas of on long term technological capability and operating cost optimization. They will be adept at influencing change/improvement in the organization beyond their own team
This candidate must be passionate about solving the toughest technology challenges in the digital media, social network, and web 2.0 industries today as well as postulate on solutions that will solve problems that have not yet been fully formulated. An integral part of the role is to not only set technological strategy across Cisco, but work towards industry leading solutions that will form and potentially change the industry as a whole. The candidate must be excited by working at scale and designing distributed systems to solve a number of problems that have been traditionally addressed by vertically scaling and often expensive technology solutions. They will have very high standards for themselves and everyone they work with, drive both engineering and architectural best practices broadly throughout the organization, and mentor architects and engineers alike in both career direction as well as industry trends. They’ll be intensely customer focused; understanding customers’ challenges and constantly looking for ways to solve them. The candidate must enjoy working in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 15+ years experience in requirements analysis, design, implementation and testing of distributed, fault-tolerant systems with particular attention to security, scalability, high performance, and cost optimization
• The candidate should have a BS or BA, or advanced degree in computer science, engineering or related field or relevant work experience.
• The candidate must be an exceptional communicator comfortable with all levels of the enterprise including Sr. Executives and will act as a primary technology contact on specific technology domain or business verticals.
• Demonstrated expertise and leadership in working with business units, product management, development and operations to architect innovative solutions that meet the requirements with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules and adherence to architectural goals and principles.
• Experience with architecting high volume web systems or large transaction client-server systems.
• Understanding of network design, including IP communication, packet structure, and routing protocols, in a high volume Internet scale environment
• Experience building proofs of concepts and prototypes to demonstrate feasibility of architectural designs and vision
• Excellent communication and relationship skills, especially the ability to articulate advanced technical topics
• Demonstrable analytical and problem solving skills
• Strong presentation skills
• Strong skills in providing a financial impact of analysis of technical projects
• Ability to mentor other architects and engineers in career and skill growth
• Very strong technical leadership and ability to command respect at all levels of the organization
• Ability to contribute to multiple projects/demands simultaneously
• Experience with web services, virtualization, cloud concepts, REST, JSON, XML, MySQL, PHP, LDAP, and object oriented methodologies
• Significant experience programming in Perl, Python, C/C++ or Java in a Linux environment
