- Ensure Application Development initiatives are well managed and deliver on expectations re functionality, timeliness, and cost. ~ Partner with senior IT Application Development colleagues to provide strong project management and governance processes for the overall project portfolio, with particular focus on those projects supporting his/her respective client organizations. ~ Promote agile application development where appropriate.
- Lead the IT business planning and budget management process as well as central IT financial functions. ~ Coordinate the annual IT budgeting process, which is a pace-setting activity for all of CarMax. ~ Transform budget management into a dynamic process including more insightful financial analysis and reporting. ~ Manage IT accounts payable, cap ex, and contract/vendor management processes.
- Cultivate a deep bench of IT leadership and technical talent to deliver results and support future growth. ~ Actively champion a robust talent management process; provide candid feedback and high impact coaching to managers and associates. ~ Develop/recruit successor caliber talent for key leadership positions." />

Overview The Information Technology Vice President of Application Development & IT Business Planning is responsible for the IT strategy and application development for Corporate Financial, Human Resources and CarMax Auto Finance (CAF) areas. CAF is the financing unit for CarMax (serving approximately 400,000 customers in its $4.5B portfolio). This position also has responsibility across all of IT for business planning, budgeting, and financial operations. The overall IT budget is in excess of $50M with a $15M capital budget. This senior level IT position manages a team of 55 associates and has direct responsibility for $6-10M development budget. This executive plays an influential role as a member of the senior IT leadership team in shaping IT strategy, making investment and priority trade-off decisions, reducing unit costs, negotiating and managing vendor contracts and improving associate talent, commitment and morale. The successful candidate must have further growth potential as a senior executive. Experience/Education: The ideal candidate will have at least 15 years of IT experience including leadership of an application development team in a multi-tier operating environment, preferably in a large-scale retail company. The VP, Appl Dev & IT Bus Planning candidate also must have substantial budget management experience, including op ex and cap ex trade-off decision making in both growth and cost cutting scenarios.
A Bachelor’s degree is required. An MBA or other appropriate advanced degree, from a highly respected academic institution, is strongly preferred.
