The Farmers Insurance Catastrophe Response Team Internship program is an 11-week program focused on giving students the opportunity to learn about the organization and gain real work experience. Included in the program is the opportunity to work with members of management, learn the claims process, and sample real work of a Catastrophe Claims Adjuster.

The Catastrophe Adjuster position involves assisting customers from all parts of the country with various types and severity of claims. After our policyholder’s report their claim, the claims are referred to an adjuster for investigation. The adjuster is responsible for confirming coverage, validating damages, negotiating and settling claims. As an intern with the Catastrophe Response Team, a majority of your time will be spent in an office environment handling various catastrophe related claims. Standard work week will be Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:45pm. Depending on claim volume, there will be potential for overtime during the week and on weekends.

As a condition of being an intern with the Catastrophe Response Team, you must be available for travel to catastrophe sites on short notice and be willing to work extended hours. All interns will be given the opportunity to assist with inspections on field claims. This will involve travel to a catastrophe site, overnight stays at a hotel for up to three weeks, climbing ladders, walking on roofs, completing damage inspections, and writing estimates. While working on a catastrophe site, you may be required to work up to 12 hours each day. Overtime pay and a meal per diem will be paid if applicable. Bilingual students are encouraged to apply.
