ELECTRONICS & COMPUTER COORDINATOR, DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS & ASTRONOMY Swarthmore College seeks a qualified individual to take responsibility for coordinating all aspects of electronics and computer-interfacing in the department. Responsibilities include: design and construction of electronic instrumentation for teaching and research laboratories; instructional assistance with electronics and experimental procedures courses; and maintenance of departmental computers. The Coordinator will also oversee the electronics shop including maintaining inventories of supplies and hard copy reference materials; instructing students on electronics fabrication in a formal course; set-up and assisting a professor in the electronics course, and generally maintaining a clean and safe electronics shop. The department consists of a vibrant group of seven physicists (5 experimental, 2 theory), two astronomers, two lecturers, and three staff (including this position). REQUIREMENTS: • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree, preferably in physics or related field; Candidates with higher level degrees are encouraged to apply. • At least 2-3 years experience in the instrumentation/computer area • Facility with electronics design, construction, testing, and repair, including both analog and digital. • Knowledge of computer operating systems and interfacing computers with hardware. • Good communication and teaching skills; Experience in teaching or laboratory instruction desired.
