Responsibilities

The “Device Marketing Strategy” team at Verizon Wireless is responsible for the development and prioritization of the strategic portfolio evolution of mobile devices. Mobile devices include Smartphones, basic phones, tablets, Netbooks and broad band devices as well as other wireless devices and accessories. This position is a high profile, key technology innovation role with Verizon Wireless Device Marketing Strategy organization. The Device Strategy Manager will be part of the team responsible for understanding the technologies involved in developing mobile devices. The manager will then propose a roadmap for different technologies to be used in our device lineup. This roadmap will be executed by driving those initiatives with various suppliers, including cell phone OEMs, chip set vendors, OS vendors and other hardware and software suppliers. Candidate should have a broad technical background in mobile device development with a strong marketing and strategic thinking to understand how the technology can drive the strategy and the business deliverables. Position will be located in Basking Ridge, NJ reporting to the Device Marketing director. Key skill sets include:
•  A good understanding of mobile device hardware. A high level understanding of mobile chipsets, telecommunication systems, memory, displays, power management and other device components would be needed.
•  A good understanding of mobile device software. An good understanding of operating systems - Android, iOS, Microsoft, Linux, … application development environment, etc.
•  A good understanding of cloud computing and HTML5 will be required.
•  Knowledge of user experience on mobile devices
•  Multidisciplinary skill sets in understanding mobile communication like voice, video and messaging.
•  High level understanding of mobile applications. These will include multimedia environments, location based services and other mobile applications.
•  Identify market place trends by understanding primary and secondary research and through existing product reporting and analytics.
•  Be the strategy evangelist and the market expert.
•  Develop strategy roadmap and track to execution of product delivery.
•  Drive business and technology stakeholder teams to execute the strategy through the product development life cycle.
•  Develop clear and concise reporting of strategy and potential gaps/shortcomings with plan to address.
•  Own the creation of user scenarios and high level product specifications.
•  Be accountable for strategy objectives and have visibility into product performance in the market.
•  Have a deep curiosity for how customers use products and services post launch Go to Market functions.
•  Help develop and deliver presentations which illustrate the technology trends and strategic vision.

Qualifications

•  8+ years experience in the wireless industry with in-depth knowledge of wireless devices
•  Strong engineering background
•  Knowledge and experience in HW and SW development of mobile devices
•  Technical understanding of mobile platforms, including Android, iOS, Windows Mobile, and BlackBerry, and their differing UI standards
•  Holistic understanding of mobile user experience (e.g. technology, user behavior) and the broader mobile ecosystem (e.g. operators, OEMs, storefronts)
•  Proven ability to manage multiple projects
•  A proven track record in technical vendor management skills
•  Excellent written and oral communication skills
•  Ability to think “outside the box” and ardent desire to innovate
•  Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work with multidisciplinary teams
•  Proven ability to undertake multiple initiatives simultaneously
•  High enthusiasm towards learning about new wireless products, devices and technology trends
•  Highly motivated, able to multi-task on several products/platforms and work under tight deadlines with little supervision
•  Exceptional written and oral communication skills
•  Exceptional organizational and analytical skills – data driven decision-making
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills – able to communicate with technical leads, engineers, designers, executives
•  Demonstrated skills in requirements gathering, resource organization, and schedule development EDUCATION
•  Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Computer Science (Master’s degree in engineering or MBA is a plus)
