Help us fight spam! Cisco’s Security Technology Business Unit is a cornerstone of Cisco Security Systems. We provide solutions to the networking world covering secure network communications, threat defense systems, security management and web and email security. The Customer Support Engineer works as part of the Security Support Operations Group and is responsible for handling escalations for our email and web security suites. Some of our many services include Cisco IronPort Anti-Spam, Outbreak Filters, and the SenderBase reputation system.

Primary responsibilities include:
• Triage internal and external escalations related to scoring, listing, efficacy and reputation determinations made by our security systems
• Provide second tier engineering response to email and web security issues escalated from customer support and other customer-facing teams
• Answer emails in ticketing queues and respond to alerts generated by monitoring systems
• Work closely with teams located in the US and abroad
• Contribute to the establishment of procedures and best practices for internal and external use
• Generate trend and activity reports.

Required Experience and Aptitudes:
• Minimum of two years in a support or administrative role with corporate and open source email systems
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with solid judgment about handling proprietary information.
• Extremely strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Must be customer focused, with a strong sense of quality and thoroughness

Technical Skills:
• Knowledge of spam, virus and phishing techniques
• UNIX Experience and familiarity with tools such as dig, traceroute, whois, etc.
• Strong email knowledge (administration, blocklists, RFCs, reading email headers and understanding SMTP)
• Networking knowledge (subnets, network classes, DNS)
• Perl, shell scripting, regular expression and SQL experience

Other Requirements:
• Hours: Regular escalation coverage is M-F from 9-5:30 Pacific time, with rotating weekend support shifts 7:30am-4pm Pacific. Rare shifts on minor holidays, or to provide backup coverage for our offshore teams.
