Job Title: Senior Software Architect Region: AMERICAS

Job Description: The senior software architect role is responsible for all aspects of software architecture design for products and supporting components within the Client and Mobility Business Unit (CMBU) which is part of Cisco’s Collaboration Technology Group (CTG). This includes the product solution architecture roadmap, and implementation of world class design methodologies and processes that enable continuous improvement and provide for competitive advantage. This individual will work with their peers in the CMBU architecture team to expand Cisco’s unified communications software and solutions business. The ideal candidate will have excellent knowledge of enterprise communication software and client, server, mobility, and cloud deployments.

Key responsibilities include:

• Contribute to multi-year architecture roadmap to support unified communications products that dramatically expand CMBU revenue and profitability.
• Evaluate new technologies and provide read-outs to CMBU executive staff on the readiness and applicability of those new technologies within the context of Cisco’s unified communications solutions.
• Contribute to a “can do” culture based on success, pride, performance, discipline, creativity, and taking risks where prudent.
• Establish strong collaborative culture with other product groups and functions within CMBU and CTG. Obtain prompt resolution to key business issues likely to impact product release schedules, product requirements, product quality, and business operations.
• Be an effective spokesperson and champion for CMBU on various architectural boards/forums.

The successful candidate will be an innovative and seasoned software architect with proven leadership experience in technology strategy and product delivery.

The ideal candidate will possess the following experience:
• Proven experience setting the architectural vision and working effectively with development teams. Experience supporting multiple products, estimating project requirements.
• Experience driving voice and video technology architecture and infrastructure design activities.
• Expert knowledge and proven codec development experience in area of video codec algorithms and core principles ideally experience with H.264 and emerging video standards.
• Experience in addressing client / server issues, software client deployment issues and working with web browser based clients.
• Experience and understanding of how software clients impact scalability of back end services (server clusters, databases, directory services, etc.)
• Experience with multiple media frameworks such as gStreamer.
• Experience with video transmission of IP network including error resilient encoding, FEC, error concealment.
• Experience with video steaming protocols, RTP/RTSP/HTTP.
• Experience with video capture and rendering.
• Experience working in an Agile environment.
• Eagerness to contribute in a team-oriented environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related field is required. Advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 10 years experience in developing high performance software and communication services.
