Cisco needs a self-motivated, highly technical software engineer/architect to investigate new technologies and develop prototypes in the Smart Grid communication networks / Internet of things space. We are looking for candidates who thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and can collaborate across organizational boundaries. This is a role for technology visionaries with excellent communication skills who can also quickly code up prototypes for new ideas using a variety of tools and languages. Responsibilities: 1. Investigate new technology trends and determine possible impact to Connected Energy Networks Business Unit products. Work with other Cisco groups, partners or 3rd parties as needed. 2. Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept demos to demonstrate new concepts internally as well as externally, to customers and partners 3. Influence product direction and partner closely with other teams of the business unit 4. Ambition and thirst to learn, contribute to the engineering team and to the business. Required skills: 1. Extremely technical, with expertise in embedded systems (lightweight operating systems, constrained environments, …), Wireless/PLC sensors networks, IPv6 protocols (RPL, 6LoWPAN, CoAP), and ideally distributed intelligence and artificial intelligence 2. Knowledge of modeling and simulation 3. Programming experience, preferably in a variety of languages and development environments 4. Fast learner, able to thrive in a rapidly changing environment 5. Ability to plan small projects and solve complex problems involving multiple sub systems. Works under department strategy and direction. 6. Translates department goals into own work assignments. 7. PhD required The working language will be English.
