Job Description:

We are currently embarking on a process of increasing the use of digital/online learning at Vertex including developing the "next generation" learning to augment our in-person programs. The Associate Director, Digital Learning & Design will collaborate with content developers and subject matter experts (SMEs) to determine skills gaps/learning needs, design/develop high quality learning materials, and partner with external vendors to manage the content production process.
The position reports directly to the VP, Talent Management and the role sits in the Boston Vertex office.
Key Responsibilities
  • Create a multi-year, multi-modality digital learning strategy
  • Collaborate on the design and development of training content, video production and animation with input from subject matter experts (SMEs), to produce sound instructional materials in accordance with program objectives and solid instructional principles
  • Recommend instructional methods, such as individual or group instruction, self-study, games, simulations, exercises, and role-plays, appropriate for content and learner characteristics
  • Responsible for creating eLearning content that is instructionally sound and engaging with the ability to translate technical material into concise eLearning modules for non-technical users
  • Develop and publish eLearning modules to a Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Enable mobile and distance learning that captures the latest and emerging technologies and thinking
  • Create and edit video, audio, and animations for use in all learning formats
  • Keep abreast of continually new and/or enhanced product features and functionality and incorporate into training design and development (e.g., new SaaS offerings; apps)
  • Build digital learning capabilities in others to help foster greater quality, effectiveness and efficiency of learning
  • Develop measurement tools to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction or learning content

Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, learning technology, and/or a related field (special focus in technology and education). Advanced degree preferred
  • At least 7 years of applied experience with content development including experience using multi-media development software (authoring software, video creation tools, graphic development tools, etc.)
  • Direct experience designing and developing all types of solutions using a variety of development tools that exemplify good practices in instructional design including the Learning and Development (L&D) suite of authoring and software tools (such as Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline 2, Claro Flow)
  • Experience working with programming languages such as HTML5, JavaScript and CSS
  • Experience with design thinking, user experience, and user interface design preferred
  • Proven understanding of tools for learning, including emerging technologies and online learning tools
  • Experience designing and delivering content via a Virtual Classroom preferred
  • Specific experience evolving Learning Management System (LMS) capabilities and knowledge of SCORM, AICC, xAPI
  • Specific experience working with content aggregators a plus
  • Ability to work with limited supervision in a fast-paced, ever-changing team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills, and project management skills, especially attention to detail to quality-check own work
